The Horseshoe becomes prime venue for concertsPosted by Newsroom Stew on February 4, 2009 at 2:15pm View Newsroom Stews blog Just looking over what events the Horseshoe Arena has actually hosted since its March 2006 opening, it is hard to argue that area music fans havent benefited the most from the decision to build it. While trade shows and traditional exposition events have had their place at the multipurpose center located on I-20, Midland has seen more than its fair share of music events -- including some which might not have taken place in Midland if the Horseshoe didnt exist. During the next five days, this will become even more apparent as a pair of concerts will rock Midland -- Disturbed, Sevendust, Skindred on Thursday and 3 Doors Down, Seether, Safetysuit on Feb. 10. Tammy Dooley, Vice President Sales & Marketing for Dooley Management Company which operates the Horseshoe for Midland County, told me the Horseshoes location and the ability to hold 4,000 make the Horseshoe a prime venue for these type of shows. Since 2006, she reports musical acts including Staind, Papa Roach, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Michael Peterson, El Tri, Grupo Innovasion, Pantera Del Norte and Kevin Fowler have played at the Horseshoe. Include charity banquets and other benefits, and that list includes Terri Clark, Clay Walker, Darryl Worley, Mark Chestnut and Kathy Matea. Midland is such a great area for entertainment, Dooley said. The Horseshoe offers so much we are proud of, but we never lose site that a lot of people and other venues have built this market over the years which benefits us all. Promoters have so many options to choose from, such as stadiums, clubs, theaters, etc., that together we build this entertainment market that continues to grow and the community gets to enjoy. Those other venues include Chaparral Center, the baseball and football stadiums at the Scharbauer Sports Complex and Centennial Plaza. But when it comes to music, the Horseshoe doesnt take a back seat to anyone. Rock fans will have a couple chances to experience that in the next week.
