The Midland County Horseshoe Pavilion opened January 31st with the Silver Spur Gun and Blade Show. The first entertainment scheduled was on Saturday, February 7th with Jeff Foxworthy as the headliner. The multipurpose venue is a complement to the Midland County Horseshoe Arena, which in the future will be dedicated to equestrian and livestock events. The new venue complex will have a 2400 seat air conditioned arena, supported by two make-up dirt arenas and 280 horse stalls. The new Pavilion will have a 52,000 square foot Main Hall, which can be divided into three sections. It will also host performances and meetings in two venue settings: the 5300 seat full house configuration and the 3352 seat intimate setting. This summer, the 4500 seat Amphitheater will open with a summer concert series yet to be announced.
The design of the new Pavilion and its Amphitheater is unique in that both venues share many amenities. Show power of 1600 amps can be used in either area, plus dressing rooms, box office, production offices and green room are common to both. Rest rooms are also divided to allow either venue to host its maximum seating.
The Pavilion was added in response to the huge demand for meeting and trade show space in the Permian Basin. It will host 52 days of meetings, trade shows, entertainment and gala events in the first four months. This activity will be done simultaneously with the already scheduled horse, cattle and rodeo events in the existing Main Arena.
